Dear Friends,

It is a pleasure for me to acknowledge receipt of the package I recently received from Bryant Service Club. I sincerely want to thank you all and, also, congradulate [sic] you on the fine work you are all doing for your men in the Service.

Please say “hello” to the members of the faculty for me, and tell them if I had time I would write to each of them. I thought I was kept busy at Bryant, but, believe me, you don’t know what work is and long hours are like until you hit the army. However, we don’t mind, because it is all for a good cause.

I hope that someday, before long, I will get a chance to visit Bryant. It would certainly feel good.

I wish you all the very best in this school year.

Sincerely yours
John M. Bannan
[Transcription ends]

Dear friends,

I wish to acknowledge receipt of the cigarettes and, once again, thank you all for them.

I am now on maneuvers in Louisiana not a very pleasant place to spend a summer. The weather is very warm and the bugs terrific. If possible, I would even trade places with you now at exam time.

Best regards to all at Bryant and wishing you all the very best with your exams.

Gentlemen:

I am remiss for not having acknowledged the last two packages I received from the Bryant Service Club. They both arrived in fine condition, and you can be sure they were much appreciated. It is very gratifying to know that you are still remembered by old friends. I often think about you all, but seldom have time for letter-writing. My days are always full, from early morning until late at night, and for this reason, I have become a poor correspondent. However, I do appreciated your remembering me.

Again thanking you for your thoughtfulness, and with very best wishes to you all,

Sincerely,
John M. Bannan
Lieutenant John M. Bannan
[Transcription ends]

SEVENTEENTH COMPANY, SEVENTH BATTALION
SECOND STUDENT TRAINING REGIMENT
FORT BENNING, GEORGIA

May 28, 1942

Dear Friends,

I want to thank the Bryant Service Club for the box of cigarettes which I received a short time ago. I regret to say that my acknowledgement is a little late, but I am sure you all realize how busy we soldiers are at this time.

From all reports the Bryant Service Club is doing a fine job in bringing happiness to their boys in the services. By such actions as these the boys know you are behind them and doing your part in our vast defense program.

I want to congratulate the Bryant Service Club and all those who have contributed in some way to start it and keep it rolling. Keep up the good work.

Very truly yours,

J. M. Bannan

P.S. My address will be changed in about two weeks. I will notify you as to my new location. [Transcription ends]
