April 12, 1944

Dear Bryant Service Club:

I had the pleasure of receiving your Easter package today, for which I am indeed grateful. It has been a long time since I’ve received a bulletin of information about the school, both past and present and I look forward to them as well as the quaint innuendos which accompany your packages.

In the latest I received a woolen snood or what-ever-it-may-be-called which is real swell for some of the weather around these parts. However, the package was slightly the worse for wear and the card mentioned camels so I’m returning the stamped postal slip as well as the insurance stamp in order that you may put in a claim for whatever else may have been in there.

At the present time time [sic] I am fairly advanced in the Radio Mechanics course. I am learning about radio equipment used for transmitting and for receiving. Before completion of the course I shall also have had a few weeks of learning aircraft radio equipment.

I have met a school chum of mine from Bryant who is also on this post. His name is Leonard Levin, Pvt and he is in the 620th T.S.S. at this field. I believe he graduated in ’42. It was swell seeing a buddy from my own alma mater.

Thanks again for the package and I shall be looking forward to your next bulletin.

Sincerely,
Bob Bergman

ADDRESS 618th T.S.S. Zone 7
Truax Fld., Madison, Wis.

January 3, 1943

Dear Bryant Service Club:

I have just received your most welcome letter-bulletin and I wish to say that it is as wonderful a missive as I could hope to receive.

I had heard that my classmate, Ben Scuda, was missing in action. Imagine my joy to read that he not only had been found, but that he was back in this country and had visited Bryant.

Words fail me to describe the [happiness] I derive from reading of the different students returning for a visit; of Mrs. Costas blessed event; of Mr. Naylor’s eventful step. In my opinion that pretty “school-marm” in Woonsocket sure got herself a prize package.

I’m sorry to hear that Scott House no longer houses boys. I spent an extremely enjoyable semester there back in ’39 – ’40. I believe a few members of the faculty still remember that group of fellows & their merry pranks.

I’ve done a bit of traveling since my last correspondence, which was from Atlantic City, N.J. Since then I have been to Greensboro, N.C., Scott Field, Ill. and now Truax Field, Madison, Wis. I am preparing to enter Radio Mechanic School & have hopes of going into the field of Radar.

At this time I have not received your Christmas package but I shall certainly inform you when I do.

Sincerely yours,
Bob Bergman ‘42
[Transcription ends]

Dear Friends

I recently returned from a furlough at home, and were it not for the fact that it was necessary for me to work a bit while there, I would have liked very much to have been able to visit Bryant again. It seems years since I have seen the place and I’m very grateful & thankful to the service club for keeping me in touch with the news by means of the bulletins I’ve received. Although I always enjoy the gifts, such as the Easter package, I must admit that I look forward much more to the letters which carry the news of the former members of the school who are now in service & with whom I was at Bryant.

I know that all the fellows & gals in service look forward as much as I to receiving news from you.

My hellos to all my friends of Bryant, both past & present. I hope that we may soon all be able to regather on the grounds of Bryant for a real get together soon, & I know it will be some time that we’ll have too!

Sgt. Bob Bergman

P.S. Is the “Yacht Club” still doing business?
[Transcription ends]

Hello Bryant:

I received your bulletin and wish to express my appreciation for it. There’s a real warm spot in this body of mine set aside especially for Bryant & the swell times I’ve had there.

It seems that every bulletin I get has news of at least another of my former professors.

What is the latest information concerning Major H. J. Lee?

My congratulations to Mr. Naylor and I also hope that Mr. Appleby’s illness will soon be gone. I hope they remember me (Scott House ’40 – 41) as well as I remember them.
