Tuesday, 4 January 1944
Tehran, Iran

Hi Everyone,

I received your swell package Sunday, and I want to thank each and everyone of you very much. It was certainly swell of you and I appreciate it very much.

Well, I am still over here in Tehran, the capitol of Iran. Things are about the same as usual, which isn't much. Things are pretty dead here, and we really don't have a heck of a lot to do. However, I guess we are more fortunate than a lot of fellows.

As you know, we were really in the news when they had the conference here. I was fortunate enough to be a member of the President's honor guard, so I got a chance to get a good look at him, and a bunch of other big shots. When the President landed here I couldn't have been more than ten feet away when they took him off the plane. I never saw so many big shots in my life. I also got a chance to see Churchill and Stalin, although not from such a close-up position. All in all it was quite a thrill getting a chance to see so many of them. I only hope that their being here will shorten the war and get us all home a bit sooner. We are kept pretty busy here, and really do accomplish quite a bit. As far as I am concerned I would just as have put in a good day's work, for when you are working the time goes by a lot faster. I have now been over here for more than a year, but the time has not gone by too slow.

I have written this during noon hour, and it is now time to quit and go back to work so I must say so long for now. Thanks again for the package, and good luck and best wishes to all of you.

PERSIAN GULF COMMAND

Hq & Hq Co, PGC, APO 523
c/o Postmaster, New York
Bryant Service Club
Bryant College
Providence, R. I.

Dear Friends,

I just received your swell Christmas package yesterday, and I want to take time out and thank you for it. It was certainly very nice, and I appreciate it very much.

Well, things are just about the same with me as when I last wrote to you. Of course that was around a year ago, but believe me things are still just about the same. I am now Post Sergeant Major of Camp Amirabad, which is located just outside of Teheran, which as you know, is the capital of Iran. We are really kept pretty busy, but I would rather have it that way, as the time seems to go by quite a bit faster when you are working hard all the time.

It has been some time since I have heard any news of Bryant, but from what I understand, there aren’t many of the group left that were there when I was in attendance. By that I of course mean the instructors. I guess things have changed everywhere. It has been over two years since I last was back in the States, and I will probably not recognize the place when I finally do get home.

I suppose they still keep you pretty busy in the classrooms. That was one place that made me study to get through. If any of the old group of instructors are still around I would appreciate it if you would give my regards to them.

Well, I must close for now, as it is about time for me to be heading back to the barracks, and to bed. I want to thank you again for remembering me with the gift. I also want to extend the thanks of my barracks mates who helped me eat the contents.

Sincerely

Robert T. Clark
Robert T. Clark, 31057032
Technical Sergeant.
