31008619
S/SGT HERBERT E. ERICKSON
HQ VI CORPS, APO 306, U.S. ARMY
C/O POSTMASTER, NEW YORK NY
24 JULY 1943

BRYANT COLLEGE SERVICE CLUB
BRYANT COLLEGE
PROVIDENCE
RHODE ISLAND

Dear Service Club Members:

Just to acknowledge and than you for your May 30 letter to the fellows in uniform. You’ve still got my maneuver address, so please note what it is now. Sgt. Tom Ellis '40 and the rest of our unit have been in N. Africa 6 months now, and so far have managed very well.

The package sent to me Dec. 4, 1942 has not arrived, but thank you just the same.

Our censorship restrictions hampers the preparation of an interesting letter so I will not make the attempt.

Sgt. Tom Ellis, having just dropped in, gave a few interesting facts. The class of ’40 is well represented. S/Sgt. Paul Smedberg is handling the shorthand and typing his medical section. M/Sgt. Nat Guy is using his accounting experience in the finance office and has since departed for a higher position – sorry to see him leave. Sgt. Ellis hears now and then from Len Sweeney, ’41, down Panama way.

It was sad news to Sgt. Ellis to learn of Lt. John Hull’s tragic accident, John was a very close friend, they having grown up together.

So, you can see, when this alumni group gets together some fond memories of Bryant are swapped, and you can bet we are looking toward that day of the Big Reunion.

Kindest regards to the Service Club-

July 31, 1942

Chairman, Bryant Service Club
c/o Bryant College
Providence, R. I.

Dear Sir:

The cigarettes you so kindly sent me arrived today at our maneuver camp. Thank you very much for this very pleasant surprise and the little message that came with it. Your interest in the old alumni is very much appreciated.

They may not remember me, but anyway, please give my best regards to Mr. Lee and Mr. Ripley, and to your fellows and girls of the Club, best of luck; and if you happen to be “called,” I hope it’s to serve in the branch you would have selected yourselves.

Sincerely yours,
