UNITED STSTES ARMY

23 APRIL 1944

Dear Members of the Bryant Service Club

I wish to thank you all personally for your Easter package which I received a few days ago.

Your package was addressed to my old station at Camp Mackall, North Carolina but for the past two months I have been here at Camp Barkeley Texas. I have just finished a six week course in Field Medicine and Surgery so you can see that it’s a far cry from my studies of Business Administration at Bryant, or possibly the course [?], has its possibilities as a pre-med course. At the present time I am awaiting orders here in the Medical Dept. [?] for assignment to another unit.

Again I wish to express my thank [sic] for you kind thoughts.

Sincerely
Paul Filipowich, ‘39

Members of Bryant Service Club,

A few weeks ago while I was at Officer Candidate School at Camp Backeley, Texas, I received a gift from you. With all the excitement of completing the course and a ten day leave, I was unable to acknowledge your gift, but now that I settled down a bit, I wish to express my sincere thanks for your kind thoughts and remembrances.

The Bryant Service Club
Bryant College
Providence, R.I.

Dear Members,

I wish to express my sincerest thanks to you all for your kind remembrance at Christmas. I appreciated your package very much and do hope that we all can meet together before next Christmas.

As in the case of the majority of Bryant Alumni, we are doing work altogether different than that which we studied and trained for at Bryant. At the present time I am the Reconditioning Officer in the hospital, my job is to bring back to full physical strength injured and sick paratroopers and glider men. Altogether different from Business Administration. Regards to Tau Epsilon.

Still remembering Bryant,
Paul Filipowich, “39” [Transcription ends]

Candidate P. Filipowich
Class 18 Co. I
M. A. C. O. C. S.
Camp Barkeley, Texas

Dear Members of B. S. C.,

Before I left Camp Pickett, I received your gift which I greatly appreciated and wish to thank you all for your kind thoughts.

I left Camp Pickett on March 29 and arrived here April 1st. Tomorrow I start to work for the next three months for a commission in the Medical Administrative Corps. of the U. S. Army.

Here at Barkeley it is quite a change in scenery from that of our eastern seaboard. We are situated on a wide, level plain without a tree in sight for miles around, and for once I realize that a tree is mighty handy to have around, for it certainly could protect one from the sun’s rays. I have only been here three days, and my face is as red as a beet. Besides there is a bit of a breeze blowing which is carrying quite a bit of dust, and every time one goes outside he gets his eyes full of gravel.

But Texas has its compensating features and that is that the Texans are a very sincere and friendly people.

My best wishes to you all,
Paul Filipowich
[Transcription ends]

Dear Chairman:

This letter is to acknowledge receipt of your gift from the Bryant Service Club.

It was a mild surprise to me to find that the students of Bryant are thinking of the Bryant Alumni in the service. I wish to thank them all for their thoughtfulness.

I received your gift at Camp Lee and have been at the above station for the past five days. I will be at this post for the next two weeks and then expect to be transferred to another.

With best regards,
