The Bryant Service Club
Gentlemen,

This is to acknowledge the receipt of your Easter box of candies which I have found to be very enjoyable.

I know the Club is sending many packages outside the continental limits of the United States but I want you to know that none of the boys or girls appreciate your packages or letters any more than I do. Please keep up the wonderful work that you have all been doing since this war began because I know from my own feelings the boys overseas must get a tremendous kick out of hearing from the college.

With all best wishes to the club, the faculty and the student body of Bryant I am

Gratefully yours
Frank Garvies (34)

Gentlemen;

This will acknowledge the recent receipt of the cigarettes you so kindly had sent to me. You may be sure each and every smoke was thoroughly enjoyed.

Many thanks to The Bryant Service Club and its director for the very fine work being accomplished. It really gives a person a great deal of pleasure receiving these packages and I believe that goes for all the men and women in the Service on your mailing list.

With continued good wishes for the college, club and its members I am,

Sincerely
Frank Garvies

P.S. Would it be considered bold on my part to request my name be put on a mailing list for sweets if the Club has such a list? Your kindness has always been appreciated by me and always will be.
[Transcription ends]

Bryant Service Club
Bryant College
Providence, R. I.

Gentlemen,

Please except [sic] my apoligy [sic] for my delay in acknowleging [sic] your Christmas box, but never-the-less it was greatly appreciated and enjoyed by me and several of my buddies in the barracks. The things your club has done and is doing for us boys is wonderful and I want you all to know how much I appreciate all the packages you have sent me and also the special letter regarding the activities of the College and its men in service, there [sic] especially good and keep them coming.

I wish I could write you an interesting letter of my activities in the army but due to circumstances beyond my control I cannot do so. I can tell you I’m assigned here as a statistician in the port’s statistical division and I do find the work interesting. It isn’t much toward helping to win this war but it seems to be what is wanted of me and I’m trying my best to do a good job. I’ve enjoyed being in this part of the country but when the day comes with victory to the Allies I’ll be ready to go back to New England in a hurry.

Please forgive me this time for my delay, next time I promise to drop you a line without delay.

With all good wishes to the faculty, the student body and to the Bryant Service Club, I am

Sincerely,
Frank Garvies
[Transcription ends]

Dear Sir,

I’ve just received another package containing one hundred cigarettes which you so kindly had sent to me. Please accept my thanks and appreciation for your kindness in remembering me at this time.

In my case, I find that to be remembered by Bryant College, almost 10 years after graduation, gives me a real feeling of satisfaction in having chosen such a college for my college training.

With all best wishes fro the continued success of the work being done by the Bryant Service Club and to Bryant College, and may this be our “Victory Year”.

Monday
Feb. 8, 1943

Dear Sir;

A few days ago I received from my parents a letter from you regarding the gift sent me last December.

Please accept my apology for the delay in acknowledging the present but so that you may fully understand the situation I want you to know that I have been on basic training the last 2 months and have just completed my training last Saturday. You can be sure that the training was rugged and also the hours of work each day were long leaving almost no time at all for personal affairs.

Your gift was a wise choice and was greatly appreciated and enjoyed. Bryant College is to be commended upon the work it is doing for the service men as I know from personal experience, even though I am not far from home, how nice it is to know you have not been forgotten by old friends.

With best wishes to President Jacob[s], the faculty and the student body. I am

Sincerely yours
Cpl. Frank Garvies
[Transcription ends]
