UNITED STATES ARMY

16 April 1944

Dear Members of the Bryant Service Club,

Received your sell package and I do mean swell, along with the letter that pr ceeded [sic] it.

Things have been going around here as usual and I’m still in the supply end of the Ordinance School.

I was glad to hear that the men of Bryant are doing so well and that those reported missing are now located.

In case you haven’t hear the news, Bob Bernstein “43” is now somewhere in North Africa and Dave Kaufman “42” is on his way to getting a commission in the Air Corps as a navigator.

Are Prof. Gulsky, Vinal, Appelby [sic] and Richards still there? I alwayssaid [sic] they were pretty lucky that cigars were never ratione [sic], eh!?

I understand our sister sorority put on the “Sno-Ball” dance this year and it was a great success. Great going girls, I’m sure the fellows appreciate the fact that you didn’t let them down and made a good show of it.

Well, thanks again and I can assure you it really makes a Joe feel great to know he’s remembered by his school and everybody he’s left behind.

Sincerely yours,

9 December, 1943

Dear Members of the Bryant Service Club:

I received the sweater you sent me and it really does fit swell. Thanks a lot as it sure does come in handy. They say that Maryland is in the South, but as far as the weather is concerned, the state may as well be called part of the North.

I would have been up to see you while on my furlough, but it came on the Thanksgiving holiday and you were all on a furlough too.

My address is still the same as you have it listed, and you can rest assured that I'm trying my best to help win the battle of Aberdeen.

By the way, Ed Rosner's mother passed away and I was wondering if the club would please send him a little card. It would mean so much to him and I know it would make him feel a little better.

I have been corresponding with some of the fellows thanks to the addresses you sent me, and I was surprised to learn that Hockey and Jimmy were in England. (Lucky fellows)

Well, THANKS AGAIN, and I hope it won't be long before we'll all be back in school again.

P. S. You sure will have to change our dorm back to Scott House again first.

Dear Members of the Bryant Service Club:

Thanks, and thanks loads. I received your swell package today (June 22nd) and I noticed that it was mailed on June 7th. The reason for that is that I have been transferred several times.

Upon arriving at Aberdeen, I was immediately assigned to a basic training company. I finished this blitz training in four weeks and then was transferred to another company to take my technical training. I was going to depot & supply school, and in my third week I was suddenly & unexpectedly assigned t the 40th Ordnance Company as the requisition clerk in the Automotive Wheeled Vehicle Section.

I am receiving a real thorough training in stock control. It is really furthering my education in that I am learning the big business of the Army.

Yes, I’m still a private, but really don’t expect to be one long. Believe it or not the subject & course I learned at Bryant that has helped me the most so far is typing. Of course, if I didn’t have the other subjects I wouldn’t be here in the first place. Almost all of the fellows in our department are either college graduates or were still attending school so I feel right at home.

The weather down here is pretty hot compared to what it is where you are.

Before signing off I would like to thank you all again and hope that you keep up the wonderful work that Miss Blaney has her heart & soul in. to those who are graduating, Congratulations!

Dear Members of the Bryant Service Club,

I received your swell present of those swell knitted socks and believe me the’re [sic] going to come in mighty hand a week from today. We go out on bivouac then and we’re going to a real cold place for three weeks. It’s well up on one of the tallest & most beautiful mountains. Enclosed you will find a post card showing what I mean. This picture was taken in the summer time so you can well imagine how it is there now.

I know this letter is a little late, but I didn’t receive it until I came back from a twenty four day furlough. At this time even though it is slightly late I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year. I hope that a year from today I will again be back in school finishing my course with Mr. Gulsky [sic], Appelby, Naylor, Vinal and last but not least Mr. “Cigar” Richards.

I was very grateful not only for the socks, but to know that the club is still going as strong as it did when the class of 43 founded and organized it.

Thanks again.

Sincerely
Jerry
Class of “43”
[Transcription ends]
