With some inducement on my part the Army has made me Transportation Officer. My duties include the supervision of all rail, truck and bus movements off the post, both for freight and passengers. If any of you could come down and visit me I will give you a ride in my locomotive.

Thank you again. The best of luck with your activities.

Dear Friends,

Your package just arrived today via way of Randolph Field, Texas. Army mail gets delayed but it usually gets through.

Thank you for the candy and cigarettes, both Mrs. Hammond and I enjoyed them very much.

How are things at Bryant? It would certainly give me great pleasure to visit the school once more. Maybe I will be able to manage it in the spring.

Thank you again for remembering me.

Yours sincerely
F. D. Hammond
[Transcription ends]

Bryant Service Club
Bryant College
Providence, R. I.

Dear Friends,

Thank you very much for the tobacco that you sent me. It is always a great day when I hear from Bryant. Any message arriving from back home is welcome because it reminds me of a very pleasant time in my life.

My army life so far has been spent in periods of intense activity, usually study, then followed by a couple weeks of rest until new orders arrive. During the time you attend school you are so busy that that is the only thing you think of. During the period of waiting for orders you get so bored from inactivity that you are no better off. Well you know how a soldier always complains.

Remember me to all the students and faculty at Bryant. Remind them that letters are always acceptable and will be answered as soon as possible. I always like to hear what is happening at school.

Thank you again.

Yours truly
Lt. F. D. Hammond
[Transcription ends]

Dear Friends at Bryant,

Two years since I have been at Bryant and it seems ages. It was nice of you to remember the former occupant of Gardner Hall. Thank you very much for the very fine box of candy.

Spence Field is still my address, probably one of the few on your list that has not changed. I had hopes of seeing China but I guess that is all that I will have.

George I am having fun playing railroad president. One locomotive and a little over a mile of track.

Thank you again.
