BRIG. GEN. WILLIAM WALLACE ATTERBURY
(1866-1935)

CAMP ATTERBURY
INDIANA

January 4, 1944

Bryant Service Club
Bryant College
Providence, Rhode Island

Dear Friends,

This Xmas was indeed a holiday which offered us in the service of our country a new and unquestionable desire to work harder and more deligently [sic] in the comming [sic] year to insure those at home that victory will be ours befor [sic] the arrival of another Xmas holiday.

When I received your very interesting letter and your gift, I knew that I was not training for a false victory. No one but a service man and woman can capture the feeling of gratitude that you bring to us. Because of you and all of the “folks” back home we are able to go on even when we feel like laying down our arms and returning to our homes.

Best of luck to you of the Bryant Service Club and may you continue to bring cheer to your men and women in the service.

Sincerely,

GEORGE K. HERDSMAN
1240 Military Police Co.
Camp Atterbury, Indiana
U. S. Army [Transcription ends]
