NAVAL OPERATING BASE
NEWPORT, R. I.
OFFICE OF THE COMMANDANT

June 3, 1942

Dear Mary,

This is a very difficult letter to write since it has been quite some time since I heard from you. I don’t dare to even guess how long it has been.

The Bryant Alumni publication put the spurs to me and as a result, here is my letter.

First of all, I wish to thank you for the lovely box of candies, which I don’t believe I have acknowledged previous to this letter. I don’t know who was responsible for my receiving it but I would like to thank the entire Club.

No doubt, with just about all the boys in some part of the service, you people are kept quite busy.

I bet Bryant has changed quite a bit this last year--with all the new classes added. I hear Mr. Hammond is teaching the only decent subject taught to humans--you might mention that to him. I know he’ll just love me for saying it.

There isn’t much to say about my work here, except that I am trying my best to become a successful secretary--me, of all people.

Graduation should be coming around before long so I’m going to ask you to do me a favor if it would’ve be too much out of the way. If it is possible, I would like to buy a yearbook and a ticket to the Graduation Prom. Therefore, I would appreciate it if you put my name down for both of these. You can have the bill forwarded to me and I’ll take care of it.

I have already asked for a couple of days off in August, so that I can get up to graduation and to the Graduation Prom.

In closing, I want to say again, please excuse me for being so slow in writing. You have my promise, should I hear from you again, you will get an answer from me immediately.

Sincerely,

John M. Majoros

Give my regards to “Poppy” Carocci and the faculty, especially Mr. Hammond and Mrs. Stickney. [Transcription ends]
