July 13, 1943

Miss Clara Blaney

I just wanted you to know that I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Lambert when he came to Devens. Fortunately I was able to recommend him for assignment to the finance department and at the present time he is located at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana.

Also last week Imet [sic] another Alumnus, William Lindquist of Newport, who was a classmate of mind [sic] in1929 [sic]. In fact though we both live in Newport I had not seen Bill since graduation day and you’ll agree that’s a long time. Bill is still here awaiting assignment. He should also land in the finance department.

I also want to thank the club for the cigarettes that I recently received.

Sincerely yours,
Edmund J. Mastrovito Edmund J. Mastrovito [Transcription ends]

March 25, 1943

Bryant Service Club
Bryant College
Providence, R. I.

Dear Fellow Members:

I wish to thank you for both the cigarettes and bulletin that I recently received.

It is a little difficult to write you as I know most of the Service Club members are of a younger generation than I. However it is good to hear of such old timers as Major Henry J. Lee. I remember very well when he taught us the finer points of accounting.

As you probably know I am assigned to the Classification and Assignment Section here at Ft. Devens. One of my jobs is to classify the new recruit, using his educational and occupational background as a basis. You can readily see that I have met many and classified many Bryant College students and graduates. I have to admit though that I knew very few of them personally. However I am sure there shall be more in the future and if they wish to contact me when they arrive at the Fort, I shall try to make their introduction into the Army a little more pleasant.

Sincerely yours,

Edmund J. Mastrovito
Edmund J. Mastrovito

[Note taped to corner of letter by BSC]:
WE CALL THE ABOVE LETTER TO
THE SPECIAL ATTENTION OF ANY
BRYANT MEN WHO MAY GO INTO
SERVICE LATER AND ARE SENT TO
CAMP DEVENS. REMEMBER SGT.
MASTROVITO’S KIND LETTER
[Transcription ends]

Gentlemen:

Please accept my apology in not acknowledging your very thoughtful Christmas gift. I not only received it a few days before Christmas but also in good condition. The only excuse I can give is that your “Uncle Sam” has been keeping me very busy these days—classifying the selectees that pass through our Reception Center here at Ft. Devens.

Sincerely yours,
Edmund J. Mastrovito
[Transcription ends]
