Bryant Service Club

Your Christmas candy arrived a week before Christmas and has long since been put away--thanks a million for sending the box--it arrived in perfect condition.

Also arrived, today, was your two paged letter full of interesting news--sorta made me feel a bit homesick.

Spent a couple of months in France this fall--it was the nearest to home yet--people met us with open arms--welecomed our men to their homes--broke open bottles that had been saved a long time for the occasion.

Please correct my address:
Major Bernard C. Mullen, Jr.
0-907978
A.P.O. 650, N.Y.C.
79 Fighter Group, 85 Fighter Sqdn.

Our Christmas was the best of our 3 in foreign service--new years was especially good.

Regards,
Bernard C. Mullen, Jr.
[Transcription ends]

[Transcription begins]
Dec. 8, 1943
Italy--but not "Sunny Italy"-just muddy & wet.

Your V letter of Nov 9 beat Christmas by a few weeks--and was very welcome. It took 18 days to arrive. And, considering the speed with which this fighter outfit of ours has been moving around trying to keep up with and give air support to the Eighth Army, your letter beat many others from home.

Things go well--are all happy--Christmas packages are arriving already--remember last year we received ours in the desert in April.

Thanks for all the news--your little bulletin keeps me well up to date.

Regards to all,
Bernard C. Mullen, Jr.
'39 Evenings--
[Transcription ends]

Your “V” letter of March 14th was received out here on this Western Desert [?] April 5th. That makes 22 days—and it ain’t bad! Many thanks.

Things are going well out here as you’ve seen in the papers—we’re moving around all the time. We miss most: fresh meat and sodas, candy, movies and all those things we took so much for granted while in the states.

Your mail and bulletins are more than welcome. What marks did Shors get at Harvard!! Wow! those new courses and time scare me, I’m glad I’m out of school. That would be to [sic] much to “sweat out.”

Hey—those chocolate covered cherries arrived (in good condition)—thanks. Your proud alumnus was promoted recently for some reason or other and am now a Capt.
