5 Dec. 1943
North Ireland

Dear Friends,

Received a V-letter from you all just the other day, + want to thank you heartily for the news you sent. I really do believe your service club is performing a definite service + doing a darn good job.

A few spots of news for your interest as reported by Anie’s Irish Rose(n): About three weeks ago, who should walk into my office but my brother whom I had not seen since Dec. 7, 1941- nearly two years ago. The Lord has strange ways- taking me across the ocean to meet my brother. And just a few days ago- Roger Lambert, our Bill’s brother came into the office. I hadn’t known he was stationed right here with me, but was certainly pleased to see him + to learn about Bill’s G.I. experiences.

We’re working pretty hard over here, but I’m really enjoying it. Have my own little finance office + we’re operating per lessons learned at dear ole Bryant College!

My very best to all of the faculty who still remain. Keep up the good work + let’s hear from you again soon.

Sincerely,

23 Dec. 1943
North Ireland

Dear Friends,

Happened to run across an article the other day that I thought might be of interest. You may already have heard the news, but I submit it with best intentions anyhow.

Lt. Michael Lada—whom I knew very well when he attended Bryant College evening classes (I was an assistant to the faculty then)—has been awarded the Air Medal for meritorious achievement in Libya as co-pilot of a bomber in that theater.

Mike and his brother Steve who also attended Bryant at the same time, were swell fellows and good students. Steve is also in the service.

There is no news from this corner of the world. Everything is going along just fine. I might just mention, though, that in my opinion the Irish are as friendly a people as can be found anywhere.

Best wishes for the New Year and every continued success in your fine work. May 1944 find it no longer necessary—and hostilities at an end. As they say here in the U.K.,

Cheerio,
Herm Rosen [Transcription ends]

Hi!

I’ve changed stations three times this past month but maybe I’ll stay here a little while anyhow. I’ll write a letter soon as I know where I stand here. So far, I’m in the dark as to my next assignment. It could be any thing and anywhere….

3/28/1943

Dear Friends,

Thank you very much for the fine + very informative letter you sent. Such work as that done by the B.S.C. is greatly appreciated, I assure you.

Things are certainly happening fast at Bryant. Almost as fast as they’ve been happening to me!

My address has been changed. I’m now undergoing a pretty rugged schedule at Finance Officers Training School. My address is: Mr. Herman Rosen
Class 15-C
Fin. O.C.S.
Duke University
Durham, No. Car.

I’m really sorry that time doesn’t permit me to answer you in detail, but the pressure of our training here at this second West Point is too great + too intensive to allow for such things as spare time for letter writing.

However, I do appreciate your interest + will be very pleased to receive further news from you.

Kindest regards to the faculty + school.

Sincerely,
