Dear Service Club:

Received your friendly letter today and was real glad to hear that the school was continuing its good work. There certainly isn’t anything a man away from home likes more than a letter and a copy of the Bryant Alumni Bulletin. Many thanks for sending me a copy.

I have been commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the O, M C. and am now attending an Ordnance Automotive School in Omaha, Nebraska. This course covers Motor maintenances and operations of all vehicles used today by the Army. I expect to leave this school about the first of February to be sent to an outfit which is in the field.

This city is one of the coldest I have ever been in as the temperature is between 10° and 25° above zero all the time. Yesterday we had a good snow storm and now have about 8 inches of snow.

Thank you again for your letter and Bulletin.

Sincerely

Charles H. Tompkins
2nd Lt., O, M C- HUS [Transcription ends]

Dear Bryant Service Club:

Thank you very much for the gift which I received from you a few days ago.

It certainly makes me feel wonderful to know that the members of my school remember me and send me things like this. My one regret is that I cannot thank them one and all for this splendid work they are doing.

I expect to have my address changed within the next few weeks and will inform you of the change.

Thanks again for all you are doing for myself and all the other men in the service.

Sincerely,
Pvt. Charles H. Tompkins
[Transcription ends]

Gentlemen:

I wish to thank you for the very nice letter and package of cigarettes I received a week ago. I certainly makes one feel much better when receiving a present from friends back home.

Our routine here takes so much of our time that even finding time to write letters is a hard problem. Some days we’re on duty for 24 hours and then again we might be on for anywhere from 12 to 16 hours without a break. For that reason and now that we are having Technical Training and a great deal of studying evenings is required there is little time left for anything else.

The subjects I took at Bryant certainly have helped me a great deal during my four months in the Army.

Of the sixty men in my barracks, five of them have attended Bryant. It makes us feel acquainted just by having that one thing in common.

Thanks again for remembering a Bryant student.

Sincerely,
