My dearest Johnny: —

Today I received your lovely letter of May 7th and you can well imagine how happy I was and am!!

You sound in good spirits but I guess underneath you’re feeling not so gay. The battle of Okinawa is tough, from all newspaper and radio reports. Over the radio, all we’ve been hearing lately has been about the 6th Div. struggle for Naha , so all I can say is that I hope you’re okay and may God Bless You...
