Abstract
Black and white photograph taken during Commencement, August 5, 1949. Benjamin Franklin Fairless, (1890-1962), President of U.S. Steel from 1938 until 1952, delivered the address: "Light Your Candle". He was one of three honorary degree recipients.
The other two honorary degree recipients were Col. Clement Kennedy, President of the New Ocean House Hotel in Swampscott, MA, and Governor John O. Pastore.
John O. Pastore (1907-2000), who was Governor of Rhode Island from 1945 until 1950, is seated to Dr. Jacobs' right. Dr. Henry (Harry) L. Jacobs, Bryant College President from 1916-1961, is the gentleman in academic regalia, holding papers.
