Wed. Dec. 8th

Dearest Mommie,

Just today I received your letter enclosing the “News by the Peck”, (1) etc. Naturally it has been following me around all over the East. Yesterday I received two letters from you, one from Miss Lansing, and a Xmas card and check for $3 from Aunt Sadie.

This letter is more to answer a few questions than anything else. First of all 930 H St. is the Print-craft Bldg. in Washington which is the headquarters for Red Cross in Wash., that is National Headquarters. When I leave here that will no doubt be my address again.

Didn’t I write you that the girl who asked me about someone in Boston was Jan Diefendorf. She was a roommate of Frances Reyburn. I only saw her once or twice and she was very vague about who the person in Boston was (I’m sure she didn’t say Mrs. Cutler) and supposedly it was some friend of my grandmothers at church.

When I discovered that Davie had not received his watch, I went in to the jewelers where I left it + the man promised to send it off the next week so he surely has it by now. I wrote him to let me know if it had come yet.

The snapshot of Ruth + me was the only one I received.

I must get dressed to go to dinner now.

Sat., Dec. 11th

As you can see some time has elapsed! Wed. night we went to a cute place on 55th off of Lexington called The Cloisters. (2) After that we had a party at the Midston House (3) which turned out to be mostly for ourselves. It was kind of nutty since we had to plan + give it.

Thurs. afternoon I called up Jane Weld to ask her about coming out to see them, since Bill had said they were not going to do anything that night. She gave me instructions how to get there on the subway from Columbus Circle. I had a taxi take me to the right subway entrance + took the first subway that came along. I was supposed to get off at 110th + walk up Broadway. I did get off at 110th but there was nothing but Lenox Ave. all around me. She had forgotten to tell me not to take a subway marked Lenox or Bronx. I found a nice looking colored soldier on the corner + he told me that Broadway was some great distance west. I walked over several blocks, found a taxi + finally arrived. It was loads of fun seeing them. Jane is just as nice + attractive as can be. Bill was just as insulting as usual. He looks fine. His course is over Dec. 29th + he seems to think he will be sent to England. He calls Jane “Sugar: and she calls him Willie every now + then. They seem to think that Frances Weld is in Chung Ding, China. After a very pleasant evening they walked me over to the subway so I couldn’t get lost going home. Bill said something about going to Radio City so I may see them again this week.

Yesterday I purchased the Gin Rummy table which was $8.50. I asked Jane if they needed a table like that + she said that would be grand. Of course Bill said he wondered where our wedding present was.

Last night Becky took Aunt Catherine + me to dinner then to see “Something for the Boys.” It was grand.

I forgot to tell you that Thurs. aft. Phil + I went to the top of the Empire State Bldg. It is a marvelous sight.

I must fly now to catch the 2:20 P. M. train for Greenwich to spend the weekend with Uncle Hugh. I am supposed to find a Joan Newsome on the train who is also going for the weekend. I don’t know who she is.

Lots + lots of love,

Chichi
