Hope your cold is all gone by now. Scarf + mittens I can certainly use. (I need warm gloves.) Have plenty of writing paper.

Feb. 21, 1944

Dearest Mommie,

You have been wonderful about writing! Just today I received your letter written from Quantico. In the same mail I received a letter from Eva (a nice long one) + four Vmails from Louella. There should have been five but no. 2 was not there. It may come tomorrow.

Also today my new uniform, topcoat, hat, + battle dress arrived. Hooray! They are RAF blue + very pretty. The coat is wonderful + warm! The arm insignia on these reads Clubmobile instead of Military Welfare Server as my old uniforms + coat.

Now if I should go to London in the next couple of days I shall have something decent to wear. My other topcoat is a mess from wearing it on the Clubmobile. Everything you wear gets mud, dough, + grease on it.

All three of us took Friday off last week + in the afternoon Bibbie, Lts. Fuller, Johnson + Appleton went into a place an hour + a half from here by train. (Missing words) should have been there before she was.) We had a wonderful time, almost laughed ourselves to death. First we went + had a couple of drinks at a nice bar in a hotel there, then to dinner at a very nice restaurant. We then went dancing at a large + very nice dance hall. Since the last train home left at 10 o’clock we decided to stay there + catch the early train home the next morning. That was the best part of the trip. Oh, those comfortable beds + that nice warm room!

Well, I shall not be going to London, not right now anyway. We have just received a wire from hdgs. that all 3 of us are to go where I spent that week. We don’t know how long we are to be there. Isn’t this an amazing life? You never know what is going to happen next. It really is fun having unexpected things popping up all the time.

Bibbie has a weeks leave coming up the end of this week. You get a week after every four months over here. It looks as though I shall miss my two days off this month, altho I could count my two days in Edinburgh.

Last night Lts. Fuller + Johnson came over as we were having our high tea – wanted us to come over to their (missing word) next door + play bridge in front of their (unclear word.) They have rooms next door. We couldn’t do it as we had to go to the Aero Club opening. It was really a very nice party. They had free food for the boys, a little musical show + a few speeches of introduction + welcome. We made several hundred doughnuts for them.

Today after dishing out coffee + doughnuts all day, we had tea at the R. C. Club + came home. Mr. Andrews was to have a meeting in the sitting room off my bedroom so I took all my things into Bibbie’s room + worked on my voucher + tried on my new finery + wrote in there. About 10:30 we came in to the sitting room, the guests having departed, + had tea. Mr. + Mrs. Andrews nephew, who used to live with them, is here on leave. He is a nice looking, and a very nice young boy. We sat + smoked + had a nice chat with him.

I have plenty of money allotted to me over here. At present I spend very little as we voucher all our living expenses. The financial situation from the insurance for Harrison + the bank sounds mighty pleasant.

Is there any small alarm clock lying about? I could certainly use one. Also please send me some “Tums.” Mrs. Osborne who is staying here has indigestion every now + then + I gave her some I had + they helped her so much, I should like to give her more.

Please tell Mrs. Culver that I keep meaning to write her but what with work + the cold I don’t get things done I should like to. I shall write everyone as often as possible, but in the meantime pass the word around that I thank everyone for their letters + you can pass my letters around.

It is past midnight now + I must go to bed as this room is getting too cold to stay in now that the fire has gone out.

Lots + lots + lots of love,

Chichi

P.S. what is Davie’s address? What are Mimi’s + Ruth’s APO’s?
