To call Mary Fullbrook's new book a history of the Holocaust and its legacy would do this remarkable work an injustice. It certainly is a history of the Holocaust, one that is deft and sure footed in its command of the primary and secondary sources, and, without question, it probes the legace of this monstrous event as it has rippled outward across time and space to touch--and, in many cases, poison--the lives of countless people.
