Originally, Bryant athletes were known as the Bryant Indians. In May of 1994, lead by the athletic advisory committee, a search was underway for a new mascot. Narrowed down to 8 choices, after a 2 day campus-wide vote, on May 3, 1994 Bryant College announced its mascot change from the Indians to the Bulldogs.
In October of 2007 Bryant University would join the Northeast Conference. In 2012, Bryant became a full Division 1 member.
