Day of Understanding (DOU) is an annual, university-wide event held during the fall semester. It is hosted by the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging to strengthen our community. In 2025, the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging changed its name to the Office of Community and Belonging. This day-long experience offers a variety of programs, workshops, and spaces for meaningful dialogue, reflection, and learning. Through these experiences, we explore topics that shape our communities, such as identity, access, opportunity, and shared responsibility, while building relationships that support a more connected, inclusive, and resilient campus community. While previous years included a theme attached to the event, starting in 2026, the Day of Understanding will not have a theme. Instead, it will function as a bold statement, a call to action, an experience, a practice, and a shared commitment to building a community where every voice matters.
