Abstract

Pictured (l to r) are Bryant College President William Trueheart with former U.S. Vice-President Walter F. Mondale. On May 31, 1990, Bryant hosted a business seminar as part of the sixth annual World Trade Day. The daylong program featured Vice-President Mondale addressing "The Rhode to Europe." Mondale had been practicing international law since his unsuccessful bid for the U.S. presidency in 1984 and was a partner with the firm of Dorsey and Whitney at the time this photograph was taken. The seminar was the first step in the "Commission 1992" mission to assess the changes in the international marketplace and develop strategies for Rhode Island business and government to capitalize on the resulting economic opportunities. On this day Mondale also received an honorary doctorate from Bryant.
