Mes dames [?]:

Received your most welcome and nourishing package in time and in excellent condition. I certainly wish to thank you for your most generous gesture and to wish you continued success with the fine work you are doing. The package came in the nature of a surprise, and that is what the average soldier appreciates most--to be remembered by someone he might have forgotten. Also, please accept my, and my fellow soldiers’ praise on the quality of the cookies. If the young lady who baked the delicious little things isn’t already spoken for, I should like very much to make her acquaintance. Such a gift shouldn’t go without comment, but definitely should be encouraged.

Regards,
Wm. McKenzie
