The Moulders

"There came the thought, 'How like the potter are we who shape and mould the thoughts and lives of those who come into our keeping, even for a little while.'"

Part of the introduction of the 1915 Bryant & Stratton Business College pamphlet, The Moulders, this quote illustrates the metaphor of teachers being like potters, comparing the making of pottery to the shaping of students' minds.

The original "MOULDERS [was] wholly designed to introduce you to the members of the Bryant & Stratton faculty." The pamphlet was a series of interviews done with the faculty and staff of the Bryant & Stratton Buisness College, later Bryant College, and now Bryant University, and it revealed much about their teaching styles, philosophies, etc. You may view the original online here.

In 2026, our Center for Teaching Excellence and Library Assistant, Vènus Fernandes, discovered the booklet in our digital repository and decided they wanted to do a similar project. They conceived of a series of short audio interviews with faculty about teaching and learning. Their desire with this project is that it will become something of a time capsule that future faculty and staff can utilize for their own teaching and learning purposes.
