Body Mapping
Body mapping is a representative method of creation where one can investigate and explore meaning with their relationships with others globally. It allows one a means to creatively communicate social issues, identity, and express personal experience/s.
The process used to create these works include:
1. Respond to body mapping prompt questions
2. Develop 10 symbols that represent you, your character, your strengths
3. Relief printing – choose 3 of your defined symbols to carve and create printing blocks
4. Trace an outline of your body
5. If you want to include a person who has been supportive to your life, you can symbolize them as a “shadow” by tracing and including a second figure in your work
6. Review your answers to the prompt questions, and decide on a direction for your creation. How can you both visually and textually express meaning
7. When using colors, what is the symbolic meaning of the color/s
8. When creating your work, use both image and text
9. Write a first person narrative to accompany your work
