Voodoo ceremony in the forest, numerous figures around the fire.

24" x 36", oil on masonite. Artist: Andre Pierre (b. 1916, Port-au-Prince, Haiti - d. Oct. 4, 2005, Croix-des-Missions, Haiti.) Pierre painted the Voudou deities and spent his life presenting Voudou as a respectable religion on par with other major religions. His work has been featured in the books: Where Art is Joy - Haitian Art: The First Forty Years and Island on Fire: Passionate Images of Haiti from the Collection of Jonathan Demme.
