Dear Mom,
I’ve been in some swell spots, but this takes the cake. I just returned from the pool where I took a short dip, man it’s heaven.
Today I went down on the line and met my instructor, Mr. Balko. He’s swell, about 28, with 1900 hours in the air. There are five men to each instructor arranged in height.
Today he explained the instruments of the ship, the cockpit check, traffic patterns, practice area, starting, and so forth. There’s so much to learn, but I’m going to love it.
This afternoon I started my classes, they’re plenty tough, but extremely interesting.
Monday I get my first thirty minutes in the air, just an orientation flight, I can hardly wait. Our instructors are all in back of us. They’re going to plug like hell to pull us through if we show that we have the spirit and ability. By God, I know I have both.
